The date and legends are clear except for ET. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Perkins-Partrick provenance are noted on the NGC label. 2048943-003
Ex Joseph Piervincenti 7/30/1993-George C. Perkins, Stack’s 1/12/2000:185-Donald G. Partrick, Heritage Auctions #63160:44003 (includes the Perkins and Partrick collection envelopes and both lot tickets)

The only notable marks are a small planchet fissure on the tip of the bust and an even smaller one at the rim over the second N in CONNEC. The reverse is slightly misaligned to K-7 leaving most of the 1 in the date off the planchet, but the date is still easily readable. The legends are complete. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution and Merkin-Partrick provenance are noted on the NGC label. 2048943 007
LOT 61 1785 Connecticut Miller 3.2-L R4+ MBR VG8. Slightly sharper with a scuff of light scratches on the portrait, mostly on the neck, and a couple more on Britannia. All the scratches are blended nicely into the toning and the eye appeal of this piece is excellent for the grade. Glossy light to medium brown with darker chocolate brown toning in the fields and protected areas. The two-tone appearance accents the devices and adds to the eye appeal. The surfaces are smooth, void of any of the fissures that tend to plague these early coppers. The date is weak but readable and the legends are complete and clear. LDS. Weight 120.0 grains.

LOT 71 1786 Connecticut Miller 2.1-A R3 MBR, ETLIB INDE type, NGC VF Details, Rev Damage. Glossy olive brown with steel brown toning on the devices. Nice except for a dent and scratch or planchet void in the center of the reverse. The dent created a bulge at the chin on the opposing side. Otherwise this piece is nice; smooth with minor marks. LOT 70 1785 Connecticut Miller 8-D R5+ MBL NGC VF Details, Improperly Cleaned. The obverse is glossy medium steel brown and light chocolate while the reverse has been cleaned and retoned dark steel brown with underlying very faded red in protected areas. No roughness or marks, but there is a trace of lacquer or glue under the arm holding the branch. The date is strong and the legends are clear. Our grade is net VF20. The attribution and Partrick provenance are noted on the NGC label. 2048943-037
LOT 74 1786 Connecticut Miller 5.3-N R2 MBL, “Hercules Head,” PCGS graded VG08. Attractive mostly glossy chocolate brown and steel with traces of lighter brown on the obverse. Mostly smooth with very nice eye appeal for the grade, but there are traces of fine verdigris in some protected areas. A small void under RI and a nick before the face of the seated figure are the notable marks. LOT 75 1787 Connecticut Miller 1.1-A R3 MBR, Small Head with ETLIB INDE, PCGS graded F15. Slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel. Fine roughness covers the fields and protected areas and there are traces of fine verdigris. The only mark is an old scratch under the D in INDE. The date and legends are complete and clear. (The reverse of the holder is badly scuffed.) 346.15/16864791
LOT 78 Trio of Connecticut Coppers. Includes 1787 Miller 8-O R3 MBL F15 net G5 for corrosion, 1787 Miller 33.28-Z.16 R5 “Snipe Nose” DBL G4, and 1788 Miller 12.1-F.1 MBL VG8 net AG3 for roughness and a rim dent. Lot of 3 coins.
LOT 76 1787 Connecticut Miller 1.2-C R3 MBR, “Muttonhead,” NGC graded VF30. Choice glossy light brown with olive brown in protected areas. Smooth and free marks or planchet voids, but there are traces of soft verdigris/crud in protected areas. A nice example of this “Redbook” variety, but the NGC grade appears to be a bit optimistic. Our grade is VF20. The Muttonhead” feature is noted on the NGC label. 6488539-001
LOT 77 1787 Connecticut Miller 6.1-M R1 MBL, “Laughing Head,” NGC graded VF30. Choice glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Sharp and attractive. The only notable marks are two small rim nicks at the bottom of the obverse and a rim bruise at the T in ET. The date and legends are complete and strong. Struck with the reverse rotated 30 degrees clockwise relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. A nice example of this “Redbook” type. The “Laughing Head” feature is noted on the NGC label. (Looks more like a smirk to this cataloger.) 4707010-015
LOT 79 1787 Connecticut Miller 17-g.3 DBL G6. Sharpness F15 with a collection of deep dents in the center of the reverse. Otherwise smooth and quite nice with attractive glossy medium brown toning. LOT 80 1788 Connecticut Miller 4.1-K R5 MBR, PCGS graded XF45. Choice glossy steel brown and light chocolate with frosty tan and light brown in protected areas. Smooth and void of defects, just lightly worn. Nicely struck but the planchet was too small for the reverse die so the bottom of the date and upper half of ET LIB are off the planchet. Later die state with strong die clashmarks on both sides. A very nice piece, but the PCGS grade seems a bit high. Our grade is VF30 Choice. LOT 84 1787 Machin’s Mills Vlack 17-87A R2 PCGS graded F12. Olive brown and steel. A bit dull from a thin layer of oxidation and microscopic dirt, but there are no notable marks or traces of verdigris. The date is complete and easily readable. Later die state with a bulge in the center of the reverse from die failure. 469.12/29182683
LOT 82 1788 Connecticut Miller 16.3-N R2 DBL, PCGS graded XF45. Glossy chocolate and dark steel brown with lighter brown in protected areas. Mostly smooth and the eye appeal is nice, but there is a small patch of fine roughness at the top of the I in AUCTORI and a larger area of roughness at the bottom of the globe. The date is bold and the legends are strong. Our grade is VF35, a bit more conservative than the PCGS assessment due to the minor roughness. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. LOT 86 1788 Machin’s Mills Vlack 13-88CT, Miller 101-D, R4 PCGS VF Detail, Rim Damage. Glossy light brown with smooth surfaces, but there are a few deep digs at the rims: one at DE in INDE and two just right of the date. All three digs created bulges on the opposite side of the planchet. Otherwise nice with minor planchet voids. The date is bold. Later die state with cracks and a bulge that nearly obliterates the III. This variety is collected with both the Machin’s and Connecticut series. The reverse die (D) was used to strike two different varieties in the Connecticut series: Miller 2-D and Miller 16.1-D. Our grade is net F15. LOT 87 1786 New Jersey Maris 12-G R4 No Coulter, PCGS graded VF25. Slightly glossy medium chocolate brown with lighter brown on the devices. Reasonably smooth but a glass reveals microscopic roughness covering the planchet with peeps of very fine verdigris in some protected areas. The only marks is a small rim nick left of the date. A curved planchet clip that affects the dentils at the top of the obverse is a good identifying feature. The date was softly impressed into the die but it is complete and easily readable. The legends are clear. Struck in medal turn, head-to-head. Overall a nice example of the “No Coulter” type, and it comes with a very nice provenance. LOT 89 1786 New Jersey Maris 18-M R1 “Bridle Variety,” PCGS graded VF25. Choice glossy light to medium brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the devices. Smooth and essentially flawless with great eye appeal. A minor planchet clip over US in PLURIBUS is the best identifying feature. Struck slightly off center to the bottom leaving the date tight to the edge of the planchet. The “Bridle” feature is strong and it is noted on the PCGS label. 501.25/36320769
DOUBLE STRUCK MARIS 15-T
LOT 88 1786 New Jersey Maris 15-T R3 PCGS graded XF40. Nearly smooth showing extremely fine roughness under strong magnification, all effectively hidden under the glossy toning. No verdigris or notable marks, but there is a small, curved planchet clip under the 6 in the date. Boldly double struck. The first impression was centered on the planchet; the second was off about 5-10% to K-8. Sharp and very attractive; a great mint error. The attribution and “Double Struck” feature are noted on the PCGS label. 766262.40/37291207
LOT 91 1787 New Jersey Maris 34-J R3 “Deer Head” Variety, NGC graded F12. A “Sprig Above Plow” type. Rather glossy olive brown and chocolate with slightly lighter brown on the devices.
