 ATTRACTIVE LATE STATE 1856 N-1 WITH CUDS

LOT 496 1856 N-1 R1 Italic5, MS60. Very attractive lustrous light brown and olive with sea-green overtones in the fields and protected areas. Satiny with sharp hair details and just a couple trivial marks. A tiny planchet flake right of the inner curl is the best identifying mark. Scarce LDS, die state g, with clearly defined rim cud breaks at D, STATES. CC#3 of those known in this die state in the Grellman census.

LOT 497 1856 N-3 R1 Italic 5, ANACS graded AU58. Frosty light olive. Satiny with great eye appeal and just a touch of run on the highpoints. A puff of reddish brown toning at the top of the first A in AMERICA is the only mark. M-LDS, die state e, with die cracks on both sides. Our grade is AU55. 7330802

 FINEST 1856 N-3 WITH CUD

LOT 498 1856 N-3 R1 Italic 5, MS63. Choice frosty steel brown with at least 10% of the planchet showing faded mint color. Satiny mint luster covers the surfaces and this cent has great eye appeal. The only mark is a tiny swipe of slightly darker steel brown toning at the C in AMERICA. LDS, die state g, with a strong rim cud break at stars 12-13. Tied with several others for CC#3 of the variety but finest of the few dozen known with the rim cud according to the Grellman census.
