LOT 281 Trio of Cents, 1833-1835. Includes 1833 N-5 R1 Repunched 8 F12, 1834 N-2 R1 Small 8 with Large Stars VG10, and 1835 N-8 R1 Head of 1836 F12. All are significantly sharper with defects. Lot of 3 coins.

From the Lucien Birkler collection (includes the Birkler collection envelopes)

LOT 285 1835 N-8 R1 Head of 1836, ANACS EF45 Details, Cleaned. Sharpness close to mint state with lustrous fields. Cleaned and retoned frosty golden tan with light steel brown on the devices. Sharply struck except for the hair bun and the opposing leaves under ME. EDS, Grellman state a, before any die cracks on the obverse. Our grade is net EF40. The attribution is noted on the ANACS label. 7537299

LOT 282 1834 N-3 R1 Large 8, Small Stars, Medium Letters, ANACS EF45 Details, Corroded. Frosty mix of steel brown and tan with darker reddish steel brown at UNITED. Mostly smooth and the eye appeal is nice, but a glass reveals fine roughness between stars 3 & 4 and at UNITED, strongest at UN. No verdigris, but there is a nick over the 8 and a tiny rim bruise at AM. LDS, Grellman state b, with die cracks through stars 12 & 13. Our grade is net VF30. The attribution is noted on the ANACS label. 7464392

LOT 283 1835 N-1 R1 Large 8, ANACS EF40 Details, Corroded. Glossy reddish chocolate brown with steel brown toning on the highpoints. Looks smooth but a glass shows there are specks of verdigris scattered over both sides, mostly in protected areas. A blob of crud on the end of the wreath ribbon can help identify this cent. A bath might help. LDS, Grellman state b, with a radial crack from the dentils above star 12 in addition to the earlier crack at stars 3-13. The reverse is rotated 20 degrees clockwise. Our grade is net VF30. The attribution is noted on the ANACS label. 7464414

LOT 286 Pair of 1835 N-9 Large 8 R4 Die States grading G6. The first is MDS, Grellman state b, with a crack through ERIC but before the radial crack at ER and the reverse rotated 45 degrees clockwise. The second is M-LDS, Grellman state c late, with a sunken retained cud over the E and the reverse rotated 15 degrees clockwise. Both are glossy chocolate brown and steel with smooth surfaces. The second is slightly sharper with some old scratches on the cheek A decent pair with a nice provenance. Lot of 2 coins.

Both are from the Collection of Daniel W. Holmes, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 5/30/2010:422 & 423-Norman Thomas Collection, Goldbergs 6/1/2020:56 (includes the Holmes collection envelopes and all 3 lot tickets)

LOT 284 1835 N-4 R4+ Head of 1834 VF20. Glossy light olive and steel blending to slightly darker olive in protected areas. There is a small area of reddish brown toning between stars 7 & 8 and a light rim bruise at NI in UNITED. Otherwise nice with smooth surfaces. E-MDS, Grellman die state b, with a radial crack up from the N in UNITED but without a radial crack up from that D. Struck with the reverse rotated 25 degrees clockwise. A nice example of this tough variety, near the lower end of the condition census.
