EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 462 1853 N-27 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Frosty light steel brown with generous traces of mint red remaining visible, especially on the obverse. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has excellent eye appeal. Just a few tiny marks including a tick hidden in the hair left of the top of the ear and a tiny piece of dark green verdigris on the left side of the first S in STATES. LDS, die state d, with very narrow rim cud breaks at star 3 and stars 10-11. Our grade is MS60+ . LOT 463 1853 N-28 R3+ Repunched 1, PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red fading to steel and light olive brown on the highpoints, about half the mint color remaining. Satiny and very attractive, nearly flawless. There are a couple small ticks on the cheek and a small splash of steel brown toning connecting the O & N in ONE. In addition there are very faint hints of an old fingerprint in the field at stars 10-12 and another at the bottom of the reverse. E-MDS, die state a late or b early. The die lines from the dentils at stars 2-6 are dull but most remain visible. The fine repunching close above the left base of the 1 is sharp. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#3 in the Grellman census. LOT 464 1853 N-28 R3+ Repunched 1, NGC graded MS64 Brown. Very attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Mint frost shows in the fields and protected areas. Looks choice mint state but there is a hint of rub on the highest points of the devices. The notable marks, and they are barely visible, are some dull nicks right of star 3 and a thin nick on the truncation over the 8. MDS, die state b. The vertical lines at the dentils left of star 4 are dull but visible and the repunching at the base of the 1 is clear. Our grade is AU58.
