 1848 N-5 WITH CUD

LOT 347 1848 N-5 R4 Repunched Second 8, PCGS graded AU55. Frosty steel brown and light chocolate with mellowed mint red in protected areas, especially on the right half of the obverse. A speck of dark reddish olive toning in the dentils at the bottom of the reverse is the only notable mark. LDS, die state f, with a triangular rim cud at the second A in AMERICA. Our grade is AU50, CC#6 of those known with the rim cud. 1883.55/32848378

LOT 348 1848 N-6 R1 NGC graded MS64 Brown. Frosty light brown with satiny surfaces and traces of mint red, especially on the reverse. There are a few light contact marks on the cheek and neck plus one more under the chin. A carbon spot on the rim over the E in STATES and another on the rim off the end of the wreath stem are the only defects visible to the unaided eye. M-LDS, die state d, with a slightly raised retained cud break over MER. Our grade is net AU55. 4206992-002

LOT 349 1848 N-8 R3- ANACS graded EF45. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth with small marks including some dull ticks on the chin and bust tip. E-MDS, die state b, with a die crack at ME. Our grade is VF35. The attribution is noted on the ANACS label. 7301851

 1848 N-11 WITH SINGLE CUD

LOT 350 1848 N-11 R5- AU50. Sharpness close to mint state but recolored light to medium chocolate brown with traces of frosty tan in protected areas. Smooth and attractive with trivial marks. The only “roughness” on this cent is from die rust near the dentils on the obverse. M-LDS, die state c, with a clearly defined rim cud over the second S in STATES. Tied for CC#10 overall in the Grellman census but second finest of those known with the single rim cud. Noyes photo #30001.
