EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 437 1852 N-8 R2 MS60. Frosty medium brown and light chocolate with traces of faded mint red on the reverse. Sharp and lustrous but there is a mint-made planchet delamination above star 8 that certainly catches your eye. Otherwise a couple specks of verdigris at ATE in STATES are the only defects. M-LDS, die state (c), with fine die cracks on the obverse but an uncracked reverse.
LOT 434 1852 N-5 R2 MS60. Frosty mint red mellowing to steel brown and chocolate with nearly a third of the faded mint color remaining. There is a shallow planchet void under star 3 that has a light scratch under it, and there is a tiny low spot at the right point of star 1. A spot of very fine carbon between star 1 and the bust is the only other defect. E-MDS, die state a. Low spots caused by debris on the die (probably lubricant) cover the lower half of the neck and parts of the field inside the wreath. Tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census.

LOT 438 1852 N-14 R1 Repunched Date, NGC graded MS62 Brown. Cleaned and retoning glossy light olive with golden tan in protected areas. There is a very light touch of rub on the highpoints. The only notable mark is a light, disjointed scratch down through the 8 to the rim below. M-LDS, die state d. The repunching on the top of the 2 is still visible but the repunching on the other digits is gone. Our grade is AU58 sharpness net EF45. 3655061-038
LOT 435 1852 N-7 R1 Repunched Date EF45+. Frosty medium brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Satiny luster covers the fields and protected areas and this cent excellent eye appeal. The only marks are two rim nicks on the lower part of the reverse, one at the U and one at the second A in AMERICA. Scarce EDS, die state a late. Repunching is visible on all 4 digits of the date, strongest on the 5 & 2, and the fields are very lightly flowlined.

LOT 439 1852 N-16 R1 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Lustrous light to medium brown and steel with a couple very tiny peeps of faded red on the reverse. Satiny and attractive with just a few trivial marks including some small spots of darker toning at 52 to star 13 and a tiny nick on the right upright of the N in CENT. LDS, die state b. The fields are lightly flowlined and the earlier line inside the E in ONE is gone. The always-presets rust lumps on the reverse devices are strong. Our grade is MS62+. Saturday, June 29 th , 2024 4PM CST LOT 436 1852 N-8 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Lustrous light steel brown with mellowed mint red in protected areas on both sides. Satiny and sharp with excellent eye appeal. The only defects are a tiny speck of carbon on a single dentil under the 2 and a tiny low spot in the center of the neck (as struck). LDS, die state d, with faint die cracks on both sides. Our grade is MS63. 1898.65/34517679
