LOT 457 1853 N-20 R3 Repunched 53, ANACS graded AU50. Frosty light brown with slightly darker steel brown on the highpoints. An attractive cent with very light friction on the highpoints and trivial marks, but there is fine dirt in protected areas. Would benefit from a proper bath. Sharply struck E-MDS, die state a. The repunching under the 53 is obvious and the die lines at RI in AMERICA are clear. Our grade is EF45. The attribution is noted on the ANACS label. 7330826

LOT 459 1853 N-24 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with mellowed mint red in the protected areas on the obverse. Very attractive with very few contact marks, but there are some shallow low spots on both sides (caused by lubricant on the dies, a common feature on this variety as mentioned in the Grellman reference). The notable lot spots are on the neck, left of star 5, right of the date, and on the wreath below ENT. EDS, die state a, with sharp vertical lines down from the main curl. Our grade is MS60+. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 406036.64/33359015

LOT 458 1853 N-21 R3 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous light to medium brown with slightly darker steel brown on the highpoints. An attractive cent with just a few trivial marks including a couple barely visible ticks on the cheek, a small spot on the nose, and another spot right of the bottom of the E in ONE. M-LDS, die state b. The die lines at star 2 are dull but still visible and the fields are flowlined. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 144372.64/84715151

Ex Walter Dudgeon, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 7/30/1994:457-W. M. “Jack” Wadlington (The Twin Leaf Collection), Stack’s Bowers 11/9/2017:1082 (includes the Wadlington collection notes and the M&G lot ticket)

LOT 460 1853 N-25 R1 Repunched 1, MS60. Lustrous light olive and steel. No spots, stains, or contact marks. Satiny and very nice for the grade. M-LDS, die state b. The repunching under the 1 is weak but visible.

LOT 461 1853 N-26 R2 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Lustrous light to medium brown with subtle overtones of light bluish steel. Traces of mint red remain on both sides, especially on the obverse, and this cent has excellent eye appeal. The only marks are a thin streak of darker toning left of star 12 and a spot of very fine carbon nestled between star 4 and the dentils. M-LDS, die state c early. A single point shows from the main curl over the tip of the inner curl and the fields are smooth from a fresh die polishing. Our grade is MS60+. The attribution and Twin Leaf Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 46832.65/81448460

Ex J. R. Grellman Collection 6/1992-W. M. “Jack” Wadlington (The Twin Leaf Collection), Stack’s Bowers 11/3/2016:1210 (includes the Grellman collection envelope)
