LOT 213 1803 S-256 R3 PCGS graded AU50. Light olive brown and chocolate. Rather frosty but a bit dull from oxidation. There are microscopic traces of extremely fine greenish verdigris in protected areas. Looks as if a proper brushing could bring the surfaces back to life. There are a few marks including a small spot of very fine carbon on the right side of the E in LIBERTY plus some nicks on the forehead and in the field to the right. Sharply struck MDS, Breen state IV, with die cracks on both sides. Graded EF45 net EF40 and tied for CC#9 in the Noyes census, his photo #58571. Our grade is EF40+ net VF35. (The slab is scuffed on both sides.) 1482.50/21182043

LOT 216 1803 S-258 R-1 Small Date, Large Fraction NGC XF40. The obverse is tan and steel browns with deeper steel spots around the peripheries, while the reverse is darker brown and steel. There is a dull nick on the neck, another over C in CENT, and a thin planchet fissure along then denticles left of LIBERTY. M-LDS Breen Die State IV with die clashmarks on both sides and the field just starting to rise left of the lower curls. Our grade is VF35. 6269577-004

LOT 217 1803 S-262 R3 PCGS graded F12. Medium brown on the devices with darker olive brown in the fields and protected areas. Looks smooth but a glass shows there is microscopic roughness in the fields and protected areas. No verdigris but there is dirt caked into recesses around the wreath and legends. MDS, Breen state II, with a die line up from the bust near the neck. Noyes photo #39281. Our grade is net VG8. 1482.12/29221499

LOT 214 1803 S-256 R3 NGC graded XF45. Glossy medium steel brown and light olive with frosty tan in protected areas, particularly on the obverse. Smooth and quite attractive with light wear on the devices and only trivial marks. Two tiny, old scratches left of the eye can help identify this cent, but you need a good glass to find them. M-LDS, Breen state V. The die cracks are stronger, the die is failing at the 1 in the date, and there is a cud break connecting the first T in STATES to the rim (difficult to see in the holder). Our grade is VF35. 5849595-001

LOT 218 1803 S-265 R4 Large Date and Fraction G5. Several points sharper but covered with very fine roughness. No verdigris, just minor contact marks. Slightly glossy dark olive brown and steel. EDS.

LOT 215 1803 S-257 R2 Small Date with Large Fraction, VG8. Several points sharper with a pit in the hair at the shoulder and fine granularity on the obverse. Partly glossy chocolate and steel. The reverse is nice and would grade significant higher. M-LDS, Breen state IV, with significant swelling at STATES from die cracks and failure in that area.
