LOT 431 1851 N-37 R4 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Frosty golden tan and light steel brown with faded red covering at least 25% of the planchet. The only marks are a small spot of darker steel toning low on the neck and traces of an old fingerprint at star 1. Nicely struck EDS, die state b early. The die lapping lines at the date and star 13 are weak but still visible and there is a small lump on the bottom edge of the T in CENT. Our grade is MS62, CC#3 for the variety with only 4 confirmed mint state examples listed in the Grellman census. 1893.64/26560593

LOT 433 1851 N-43 R5 PCGS graded MS65 Red & Brown. Lustrous mint red mellowing to light steel brown with two-thirds of the red remaining on the obverse, 10% on the reverse. Only a few microscopic flaws, including a tiny planchet flake in the field right of the main curl (as struck) and a very tiny tick on the rim at star 12. Sharp EDS, die state a, with short points down from the neck and fine die lines from the dentils under the date to below the adjacent stars. (Newcomb thought this variety was merely an early die state of N-9, but the obverse die is different.) All the fine die lines are crisp and the reverse fields are slightly reflective. A sharp, very attractive cent. Our grade is MS64 , tied for CC#4 in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Comes with a nice provenance. 406785.65/26560595
