LOT 99 1788 New Jersey Maris 77-dd R2 “Running Fox,” PCGS XF Detail, Environmental Damage. Rather glossy dark olive brown with lighter brown toning on some of the highpoints. Fine to moderate granularity covers all but the highest points of the devices. No marks or verdigris. Nicely struck with a clear date and strong legends. The “Running Fox” is complete and clear. Our grade is net VF20. The attribution and “Running Fox” feature are noted on the PCGS label. 766251.97/37291164 SHARP RYDER-9 “BABY HEAD”
LOT 100 1786 Vermont Ryder-9 R3 “Baby Head,” NGC graded VF30. Slightly glossy light to medium brown. The surfaces are decent for the variety but not perfectly smooth. No verdigris. The notable defects are a planchet void on the back of the neck, a smaller one under the truncation, and a few shallow voids in the field behind the seated figure. A dull nick between the E & R in VERMON is the only significant contact mark. Nicely struck with a bold date and strong legends with the exception of ET which is complete but not strong. A bit dull from oxidation; looks like a piece that has never been brushed. Imperfect for sure but far above average for this popular “Redbook” variety. The “Baby Head” variety is noted on the NGC label. 1576854-003
LOT 101 1787 Vermont Ryder-13 R1 “BRITANNIA,” PCGS graded VF30. Slightly glossy medium brown and chocolate. No marks or verdigris. Struck slightly off center to K-2. The obverse is sharply detailed and many of the features on the reverse can be made out. MDS with a die crack from the cheek to the bottom of the obverse. There is a curved planchet clip over AUC. The “BRITANNIA” variety is noted on the PCGS label. 554.30/2838222
LOT 102 1788 Vermont Ryder-27 R1 PCGS graded VF20. Steel brown. Sharply detailed for the assigned grade but the planchet is a bit rough, especially on the right side of the reverse where there are many small chips or pits. A planchet void at TOR in AUCTORI and a rim nick at RM in VERMON are the other notable defects. MDS with a dull die crack from the bust to the star. The date is clear. 563.20/14563151
