EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

CONDITION CENSUS 1851 N-21 EARLY STATE

LOT 424 1851 N-21 R3+ PCGS graded MS64+ Brown. Very attractive lustrous light steel brown and chocolate. Sharply struck on everything except for the stars. There is a tiny tick on the nose even with the bottom of the eye, another on the nostril, and a nick near the dentils above star 12. (A small depression on the rim over the M is normal and present in all die states of this variety, but it is only visible on high-grade examples.) Rare EDS, die state a, with many strong die lines in the field around ONE CENT. A great example of a tough die state. Our grade is MS60, tied for CC#2 honors in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Comes with a nice provenance. 406713.64+/26560596

LOT 425 1851 N-24 R3 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Lustrous light bluish steel brown with subtle overtones of sea-green. Traces of faded mint red remain, mostly on the reverse. Satiny and virtually flawless. A barely visible planchet lamination on the rim at TE in STATES is the only notable defect. MDS, die state b. The die lines at star 1 are gone and the lines up to the right from the inner and main curls are dull but visible. Our grade is MS62, tied for CC#3 in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. 406722.63/26560601
