EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 80 1788 Connecticut Miller 4.1-K R5 MBR, PCGS graded XF45. Choice glossy steel brown and light chocolate with frosty tan and light brown in protected areas. Smooth and void of defects, just lightly worn. Nicely struck but the planchet was too small for the reverse die so the bottom of the date and upper half of ET LIB are off the planchet. Later die state with strong die clashmarks on both sides. A very nice piece, but the PCGS grade seems a bit high. Our grade is VF30 Choice. The attribution and Twin Leaf provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 687252.45/36651809

LOT 81 1788 Connecticut Miller 7-E R5 MBL, G6. Sharpness VG10, even sharper on the obverse, but lightly cleaned. A few minor planchet flakes and fissures but no corrosion or contact marks. The date is weak but readable. Weight 116.6.grains.

LOT 84 1787 Machin’s Mills Vlack 17-87A R2 PCGS graded F12. Olive brown and steel. A bit dull from a thin layer of oxidation and microscopic dirt, but there are no notable marks or traces of verdigris. The date is complete and easily readable. Later die state with a bulge in the center of the reverse from die failure. 469.12/29182683

LOT 82 1788 Connecticut Miller 16.3-N R2 DBL, PCGS graded XF45. Glossy chocolate and dark steel brown with lighter brown in protected areas. Mostly smooth and the eye appeal is nice, but there is a small patch of fine roughness at the top of the I in AUCTORI and a larger area of roughness at the bottom of the globe. The date is bold and the legends are strong. Our grade is VF35, a bit more conservative than the PCGS assessment due to the minor roughness. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. (The reverse of the holder is scuffed.) 687240.45/40477718

LOT 85 1787 Machin’s Mills Vlack 18-87C R4 NGC graded F15. Partly glossy medium brown and light chocolate with some darker chocolate brown in protected areas. Mostly smooth and the eye appeal is nice for the grade, but there is minor roughness in some of the protected areas, particularly in the field before the portrait. No marks or verdigris. The date is complete and strong. Early die state. 6073302-004
