EARLY AMERICAN COPPER SOCIETY AUCTION 2025 NICELY PEDIGREED S-238
yes LOT 242 1802 S-238 R4 VF20 . Ten points sharper but there are a couple patches of fine roughness on the reverse: one over the N in ONE and another at NITE. Otherwise mostly smooth with minor marks. Two light, parallel nicks in the hair left of the forehead and a tiny rim bruise at the E in AMERICA are the notable marks. Glossy reddish brown and dark steel. MDS, Breen state III early, with clashmarks on the obverse and cracks on the reverse. A nice if imperfect cent that comes with a great provenance that has been traced back over a century. Ex Howard R. Newcomb 1/10/1918-Henry C. Hines-Oscar R. Tompkins-Thomas P. LOT 244 1803 S-243 R2 Stemless Wreath, Doubled Fraction Bar, PCGS AU Detail, Edge Repaired . Glossy chocolate brown and steel with frosty light brown and tan in protected areas. Smooth with no notable marks inside the dentils, but there are some rim nicks on the obverse. These rim nicks are at LIB, the T in LIBERTY, and at the lowest curl. The rim nick under the curl was lightly smoothed but that is difficult to see in the holder. EDS, Breen state I, with die clashmarks but no cuds. Our grade is VF35 net VF25. The attribution and New Cumberland Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 36419.98/47910322
LOT 243 1802 NC-1 R-5+ AG3 . Glossy chocolate and dark steel browns. There are minor marks on each side, most notably a couple rim bruises at and right of the bust tip. Weak but readable date, partial legends but the devices and near fully outlined. EDS, with no trace of the obverse crack but the spike down from the bust right of the 2 can help attribute this cent. Glossy, smooth surfaces with attractive appeal for the grade on this rare variety.
