EAC2025
EARLY AMERICAN COPPER SOCIETY AUCTION 2025 EXTREMELY RARE TERMINAL S-186
yes LOT 213 1798 S-186 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair AG3 . Mostly glossy olive brown and steel with lighter chocolate brown on the devices. Not perfectly smooth but the roughness is minor as are the contact marks. A thin planchet fissure right of the D in UNITED is the only notable mark. The date is weak but easily readable and the legends are weak but complete except for ITE which has been obliterated by a strong cud. Extremely rare TDS, Breen state X late. The cud break at ITE is quite bold. About a half dozen known in this die state and most show an earlier state of the cud that does not obliterate the E. Another rare piece for the die state specialist.
Ex Thomas D. Reynolds 12/6/2010-Shawn A. Yancey-Erik Schneckloth Collection (includes the Reynolds sales envelope and Yancey sales ticket)
LOT 214 1798 S-187 R1 Small 8, Style II Hair VF20+ . Glossy steel and medium olive brown. Smooth with the sharpness of a slightly higher grade, but there are some minor contact marks. The notable contact marks are a fine scratch through the eye and a light rim bruise at the end of the bust. E-MDS, Breen state II, with die cracks and clashmarks on both sides but no cud on the obverse. The best identifying marks are two spots of darker toning close before the profile. Struck with the reverse rotated 25 degrees CCW.
LOT 216 1798 S-187 R1 Small 8, Style II Hair F15 . Five points sharper but slightly dull thanks to uniform microscopic granularity. Just a few trivial marks including a curved planchet crease (as struck) on the first S in STATES, and a couple traces of shallow verdigris in protected areas on the reverse. Slightly glossy dark olive with lighter steel brown on the devices. MDS, Breen state II, with die cracks but no cud break. Looks better than it might sound.
