EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 159 1795 S-74 R4- Lettered Edge VG10 . Sharpness near VF20 but covered with fine roughness. No verdigris and the only marks are a very light rim bruise at the A very light rim bruise at the A in STATES and a couple small rim nicks at TES. Slightly glossy light olive and tan with reddish brown in many of the protected areas. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks or swelling. The date and legends are strong.

LOT 162 1795 S-76b R-1 AG3 . VG sharpness but covered in fine roughness and porosity, as well as a notable cut mark from ON in ONE down through U in UNITED to the rim. The other marks include minor nicks at the lowest hair and another on the rim betwee E S in STATES. Tan and steel browns with a shallow clip at K-2. Readable legends, clear date.

LOT 160 1795 S-74 R-4 AG3 . VG sharpness but covered with fine porosity and roughness. There are also old hairline scratches across the reverse. Deep steel with hints of lighter brown on some high points and protected areas. Weaker at ONE CENT but otherwise bold date and full legends. MDS.

LOT 163 1795 S-77 R3 PCGS graded VF25 . Very attractive frosty medium brown. Smooth and choice except for diagonal scratches at the bottom front of the neck, on the chin, and in the field before the face (all at the same angle). Fortunately the scratches do not catch your eye. Otherwise the only mark is a tiny rim nick over the first T in STATES. E-MDS, Breen state II, with light die clashmarks on the reverse. Our grade is F12+ sharpness net VG10. The attribution and New Cumberland Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. (The front of the holder is scuffed.) 35726.25/47927424

LOT 161 1795 S-75 R-3 Lettered Edge VG8 . Slightly sharper but the reverse is a bit rough and has old scale or verdigris caked into the protected areas. Free of notable marks. Glossy olive and chocolate with lighter steel brown on the devices. Full date and legends.

LOT 164 1795 S-77 R-3 AG3 . A couple points sharper but covered in moderate pitting and corrosion and cleaned which left old hairline scratches on the portrait. Mostly steel brown with lighter tan on some the high points and subtle sea green and rose tones on the lower obverse. Partial date and legends, 795 being easy to make out. EDS, State I.
