1793 S-1 R4 Chain AMERI. NGC graded Good-4 . Slightly glossy olive brown and chocolate. Nearly smooth; the only sign of corrosion is a speck of verdigris on the N in CENT. There are small nicks scattered over both sides plus a larger nick at the bottom of the Y, another on the nose, and two thin ones in the hair. The date and STATES are faint, barely readable, but everything else is clear with some devices far sharper than the assigned grade. MDS. Our grade is G4. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. 3313383-005 Ex Jack H. Beymer-Roger S. Cohen, Jr., Superior 2/2/1992:626 Jack H. 1793 S-1 R7 (as a die state) Chain AMERI. Basal State-1 . Nice glossy chocolate brown. The planchet is smooth but this cent is heavily worn. A script āGā is neatly engraved into the center of the obverse and there are a few small, shallow planchet chips on the reverse. LIBER is visible, the portrait is faint but nearly complete, and faint hints of the tops of the 93 can be seen with just the right light angle. At least half the chain is visible and STATES is clear. Rare terminal die state, Breen state VI, with a strong cud break connecting TAT to the rim. This cent has decent eye appeal for a Basal State Chain Cent, and the cud break makes this cent quite special. Noyes photo #63288. Comes with a nice provenance.
