1803 C-3 R2 PCGS graded AU58 . Frosty golden tan and steel brown, the reverse a few shades lighter than the obverse. Very attractive with just a light touch of friction on the devices. A few trivial marks visible under magnification including a tiny speck of light reddish corrosion tucked against the lower curls and subtle hints of light reddish steel toning scattered over the reverse. LDS, Manley state 5.0, Fuhrman state 5, with die cracks on both sides and obvious swelling at the 18. Softly struck at the upper left of the wreath, as usual in the late die state. Struck with the reverse rotated 45 degrees clockwise. Graded EF45 by Noyes, his photo #10097. Our grade is EF45+, close to AU50. 1060.58/20353535

1803 C-3 R2 NGC XF Details, Improperly Cleaned . Frosty dark steel brown and chocolate with hints of lighter brown and tan on both sides. Doesn’t look cleaned but there are fine scratches on the portrait and a hint of microscopic roughness near the rim left of the curls. A vertical planchet chip at the leaf tip above the A in HALF is the best identifying mark. M-LDS, Manley state 4.0, Fuhrman state 4, with die cracks on both sides and swelling at the 18. The strike at the left top of the wreath is normal and the reverse is rotated about 15 degrees CCW. Our grade is EF40 sharpness net VF25. 2543470-003

1803 C-4 R4 PCGS graded AU55 . Frosty light olive and steel brown with hints of very faded red in protected areas. Just trivial marks including a very light scratch on the neck and a thin struck-through line left of the fraction (as struck) that can identify this piece. E-MDS. The usual die clashmarks on the reverse are sharp and the reverse is rotated, nearly upset head-to-head. Our grade is EF45. 1060.55/06626334

LOT 34 1804 C-1 R3 PCGS graded XF45 . Glossy chocolate and olive brown with slightly lighter chocolate toning on the portrait. Satiny mint frost shows in protected areas on the reverse. No spots or stains, only tiny contact marks consistent with the grade. None of the marks is notable and this piece offers excellent eye appeal. Sharply struck EDS, Manley state 1.0. The always-present die crack on the reverse is light and the die line from the left top of the second T in STATES is clear. Our grade is EF40. An important example of this scarce variety, near the lower end of the condition census. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 35140.45/34063610
