EARLY AMERICAN COPPER SOCIETY AUCTION 2025
LOT 652 1797 S-136 R3 AG3 . Slightly sharper, especially on the obverse, but covered with fine roughness. No verdigris, only light marks. Retoned dark bluish steel brown with some lighter coppery tan highlights. The date and LIBERTY are strong for the grade.
LOT 656 1798 S-148 R2 Large 8, Style I Hair AG3+ . Slightly sharper, particularly on the reverse, but there are some small digs at the rim off the hair ribbon. Otherwise mostly smooth with attractive glossy brown and chocolate toning. The date and legends are complete except for some weakness at AMERICA.
LOT 653 1797 S-138 R1 G6 . A couple points sharper but covered with fine granularity mixed with old scratches that are mostly lost in the toning. Chocolate and steel brown with lighter brown highpoints. MDS with swelling that weakens some elements on the upper half of the reverse. The date and LIBERTY are strong.
LOT 657 1798 S-149 R4+ Large 8, Style I Hair G4 . A point or two sharper but fine to moderate granularity covers the fields and protected areas. The highpoints are nearly smooth. No marks or verdigris, and the toning is a slightly glossy uniform dark chocolate brown. LDS with obvious swelling at OF and ER. The date is strong and the legends are clear except for those areas with swelling on the reverse.
LOT 654 1797 S-138 R1 G4 . Glossy brown blending to dark olive brown in protected areas. Smooth, just worn with minor contact marks consistent with the grade. LDS. There is extensive swelling that weakens much of the reverse.
LOT 655 1797 S-139 R1 G5 . A few points sharper with smooth, attractive surfaces, but there is a strong dent or pinch at the rim over TY and the opposing RICA. Glossy medium olive brown. LDS with die failure at the lower curls.
