EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 432 1847 N-41 R4- EF45 . Glossy light olive. Smooth and choice except for a fine planchet lamination from the left point of star 11 to the right edge of the hair bun (as struck). E-MDS, die state b early. The fine die line connecting the bases of the U & N is gone but the fields on the reverse are smooth, slightly reflective. Comes with a very nice provenance for a relatively modest cent. Ex Bruno Crossfield 12/1956-Willard C. Blaisdell 9/15/1976 (via Del Bland)-R. E. “Ted” Naftzger, Jr., 1991 EAC Sale, lot 335 (includes the Crossfield/Blaisdell/Naftzger collection envelope and EAC Sale lot ticket) SPECTACULAR OFF-CENTER MATURE HEAD

yes LOT 433 Undated Off-Center Mature Head Cent, NGC graded MS64 Brown . Lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with traces of mellowed mint red on both sides, mostly on the reverse. Sharp with trivial marks including a small carbon spot on the coronet over BE and another under star 10. Struck about 35 % off center to K-6 (the NGC label says 30%). The date is not on the planchet and unfortunately there are no attribution points available to nail down the date and variety attribution. Off-center late dates are rare but not especially so--but they almost always come in low grade and are probably High-R7 in a grade anywhere near mint state. Our grade is MS60. The “Mint Error/Struck 30% off Center” feature is noted on the NGC label. 2126467-010

Ex Anthony J. Terranova

LOT 435 1848 N-32 R-5 F12 . VF sharpness but there is a crimson oxidation spot in the hair on the neck, nick sbefore Liberty’s face, and one on the rim at star 2. There are also a couple minor rim bruises at stars 8-9, and a couple tiny specks of old verdgris on the dentils and rim over RI in AMERICA. There is a notable planchet laminatoin at I in LIBERTY down onto the forehead. Medium steel brown with underlying ruddy brown. LDS(a). Smooth, glossy surfaces otherwise.

LOT 434 1848 N-17 R-1 NGC MS64+BN CAC Approved . Attractive light chocolate and light steel browns with traces of mint red remaining on both sides. Looks mint state but there is a touch of rub on the highest points. There are microscopc ticks on the cheek and throat visible under a glass. MDS(b). Frosty mint luster covers the surfaces of both sides, and the eye appeal is excellent. Our grade is AU58+ . 4254650-001
