EARLY AMERICAN COPPER SOCIETY AUCTION 2025

LOT 429 1847 N-39 R3- EF40 . Sharpness close to AU50 but there are a half dozen tiny specks of verdigris scattered over both sides including one at the lower lip and another under the end of the wreath ribbon. A speck of carbon just left of the E in ONE was lightly abraded in an attempt to remove it. None of these defects is distracting and the eye appeal of this cent is excellent. Glossy medium brown with hard, slightly reflective fields on both sides thanks to a recent die polishing. MDS, die state b. The earlier die lines on the reverse are gone.

PROOFLIKE 1847 N-41

yes LOT 430 1847 N-41 R4- VF35 . Ten points sharper but there are several dozen small spots of dark crud on the reverse, mostly in the legend outside the wreath. Otherwise smooth with glossy light to medium brown toning. No notable contact marks. Rare VEDS, die state a early, with hard, reflective fields on both sides. The fine die line connecting the bottoms of the U & N is clear. This is the finest example of the die state in the Grellman census. Ex Rodney C. Burress-Dr. Thomas S. Chalkley, Superior 1/28/1990:977 (lot ticket included) FINEST 1847 N-41 EX NAFTZGER

yes LOT 431 1847 N-41 R4- PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown . Lustrous mint red fading to steel brown and light olive brown on the devices, more than a third of the original bright mint color showing on both sides. The eye appeal is excellent except for an obvious spot of very fine carbon at the hair left of the ear. The only contact marks are a few light nicks on the tip of the nose and chin. MDS, die state b. The earlier line that joins the bases of the U & N in UNITED is gone but the fine line from the E in AMERICA up to the dentils is clear. An important example of this scarce die variety, and it comes with a great provenance. Our grade is MS62+ , CC#1 in the Grellman census. 37365.64/18900209
