EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 427 1847 N-38/16 R1 AU50 . Very attractive frosty light olive with traces of mellowed mint red in protected areas on the reverse. Looks mint state but there is light friction on the highpoints. A dull nick on the truncation above the 8 and a small nick near the curl left of star 12 are the only notable marks. LDS, die state d early, with die clashmarks on the obverse and a very fine die crack through the lower part of the second S in STATES to the O in OF (Newcomb’s old #16). Comes with a nice provenance.

yes LOT 428 1847 N-39 R3- PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Choice lustrous light olive and steel brown with 10-15% of the mint red remaining, mostly on the reverse. Sharply struck with great eye appeal. No spots or stains. The only mark is a faint, extremely light scuff in the field just right of star 1. E-MDS, die state a, with very fine die polishing lines from the first T in STATES to the O in ONE. Our grade is MS63, tied for CC#2 in the Grellman census.
