Torres Half Cent Collection
LOT 90
1834 C-1 R6 (as a Proof) Proof 64 Brown NGC. Attractive olive and sea green with traces of iridescent violet in the field near the rims. Very sharply struck with bold details and reflective fields. The only notable flaw is an irregular planchet fissure from TA in STATES to the right end of the line below CENT (as struck). Toning along this defect is a light shade of brown mixed with specks of dark planchet slag. A small fissure at the left top of the first T in STATES is a good identifying mark. The obverse is choice. Earliest die state with an uncracked obverse and no clashmarks on the reverse. Our grade is Proof-60. Comes with a very nice provenance. The Donald G. Partrick Collection provenance is noted on the NGC label. 5747056-010 $12,500 Ex Louis Helfenstein Collection, Lester Merkin 3/6/1968:145-Donald Groves Partrick Collection, Heritage Auctions 4/23/2021:3723-Chris McCawley 1/1/2022-The J. LOT 91 1834 C-1 R1 MS65 Brown PCGS. Very attractive lustrous light olive and steel brown with subtle undertones of rose and faded mint red. Mint frost covers the planchet and the eye appeal of this piece is outstanding. Sharply struck and nearly flawless. The best identifying mark is a small, barely visible swipe of darker toning from ST to the top of the H. EDS, Manley state 1.0, Fuhrman state 1, with no die clashmarks on either side (same die state as on the Proof strikes). Our grade is MS64. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 35285.65/34063497 $3,450 Ex Anaconda Rare Coins 7/29/2005-Barry Lame (The Green Tree Collection), McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 2/18/2018:190-Chris McCawley 6/1/2018-The J.
