LOT 296 1803 S-262 R-3 VG7. VF sharpness but corroded and cleaned with uniform granularity on both sides and tiny pits on the reverse. Dark ruddy brown and bluish steel, free of notable marks with no verdigris. V-LDS, Breen state III, with the retained cud break through STAT. Only 7 known in this die state. Graded VF20 net G5 by Noyes, his photo #38280.

LOT 293 1803 S-261 R-2 VF30. Glossy light to medium browns and light steel with traces of shallow oxidation around STAT. There are also minor nicks on the throat and Liberty’s cheek, trivial marks otherwise. E-MDS, Breen state II. Smooth surfaces.

LOT 294 1803 S-261 R-2 VF20. 15 points sharper but there is a vertical dent right from the drapery down right of the 3. Also lightly cleaned and now toned mostly deep steel with underlying attractive light brown. There are rim nicks above LIBERTY and a minor rim bump under 03 caused a thin planchet crack along the dentils. E-MDS, Breen state II with a fine die crack between 8 and 0 up to the drapery.

LOT 297 1803 S-263 R-3 VF20. XF sharpness but lightly corroded with dark stains on the obverse and traces of dark, microgranular scale on either side. Steel brown and ruddy brown. LDS, Breen state VIII, with the obverse rim cud break below the date, fine die cracks extending up from the bust tip, and another crack through O in OF and the wreath getting stronger as it extends to the dentils between UNITED AND STATES that has a lighter crack branching off up through the second T in STATES.

LOT 295 1803 S-261 R-2 VF20. 10 points sharper but recolored and now medium brown and light steel with underlying artificial red. There are also hairline scratches left across both sides. Rare EDS, Breen state I, with the perfect obverse before the crack. Smooth surfaces.

LOT 298 1803 S-263 R-3 F12. XF40 sharpness but lightly corroded with fine roughness and tiny pits, as well as a notable rim bruise just below and behind the hair braid. Some of those pits contain old verdigris, but only trivial marks otherwise. Chocolate and olive with bluish steel tones. M-LDS, Breen state V, with the strong rim cud break under the date, the two die breaks extending up through the bust tip, and the reverse die break that extends through O in OF but stops at the top leaf of the left wreath.
