LOT 187 1798 S-173 R-3 Small 8 VF20. Ten points sharper but there on some contact marks on otherwise smooth surfaces. The notable marks are some nicks on the portrait plus one in the field off the chin, a rim dent at the second S in STATES, and a rim nick at the F in OF. Glossy light to medium chocolate brown and steel with traces of frost in protected areas on the reverse. Late die state, Breen state IX, but there is no cud break at the L in LIBERTY (an intermediate die state not known to Breen). The narrow rim cud over CA is present and the cud over ERTY is strong.
