LOT 165 1798 S-148 R-2 Large 8 VG10. 10 points sharper but there is fine granularity on the surfaces and a couple notable digs, including one at the nose and another below the fraction. Mottled dark brown and charcoal with lighter brown on the high points. M-LDS, Breen state VI. Graded F15 net VG10 and TCC#27 in the Noyes census, his photo #27516.
LOT 164 1798 S-148 R-2 Large 8 PCGS XF Details (Cleaning). Lightly cleaned and retoned glossy medium brown and light chocolate with small areas of darker chocolate on both sides. There are some areas of fine roughness, particularly at the eye and around the date and bust, but fairly smooth otherwise. Free of notable marks, no verdigris. M-LDS, Breen state VI, with a bold cud break that connects ERTY to the rim above. The edge is double flanged in some areas, plain in others (as described by Breen for his edge VII on page 439 in his encyclopedia). Graded VF35 net VF20 and tied for CC#11 for the variety by Noyes, his photo #22976. Bland says EF45 net VF30 and tied for CC#10. Our grade is EF40 net VF25. DOUBLE STRUCK
LOT 166 1798 S-149 R-4+ G5. G6 but there is an old scratch before the throat, a more notable one on the central reverse, and very light roughness on the reverse. There are also nicks scattered around the reverse rims. Semi-glossy dark brown, a couple shades lighter on the devices. EDS, Breen state I. Double struck, the second strike 1-2 mm off center towards K-12. Graded G5 net G4 and TCC#29 by Noyes, his photo #27364.
