EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS  DOUBLE STRUCK

LOT 160 1798 S-145 R-3 G6. VG10 sharpness but there are a handful of old hairline scratches on the obverse. Semi-glossy medium to dark olive browns. M-LDS, Breen state IV. Double struck,, the second strike 1mm off center towards K-1. Graded F15 net VG8 and TCC#26 in the Noyes census, his photo #27414. Smooth, hard surfaces.

LOT 162 1798 S-147 R-5- Large 8 VG10. Style I Hair. A point or two sharper but recolored slightly glossy uniform dark steel and olive brown. Mostly smooth but a glass reveals traces of microscopic roughness on the reverse. Just minor contact marks including a half dozen small digs on the reverse with a couple on the leaf under the C in AMERICA and one on the E in UNITED. The date is strong and the legends are clear. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks on the reverse. A variety that is difficult to find in higher grade; only three known that grade better than Fine by EAC standards, and one of those is in the ANS Collection.

LOT 161 1798 S-146 R-5 ANACS VF Details (Corroded). VF30 sharpness but corroded and cleaned with micro-porosity and very fine roughness on the surfaces. Mostly dark steel and olive with lighter artificial red revealed on the high points. The only mark is a diagonal nick under the hair braid. EDS. Our grade is VG10. 781547

LOT 163 1798 S-147 R-5- Large 8 VG8. VF20+ sharpness but there are scattered pits on the obverse and one on C in AMERICA. Mostly medium brown with steel toning highlighting the devices and legends Rare TDS, Breen state II, with a subtle reverse die crack from the rim to the left ribbon, through the denominator, right ribbon and CA to the rim. Graded VF25 net VG8 by Noyes, his photo #38328.
