LOT 150 1827 N-8 R3 EF45+ . Frosty tan and light brown with delicate wisps of darker steel brown toning on both sides. No defects, only light wear on the highpoints, with mint luster in the fields and protected areas. MDS with the always-present die cracks through most of the stars. A small puff of reddish chocolate toning over star 10 is the best identifying mark. Called AU50 and CC#4 in the Noyes census, his photo #26735. LOT 151 1827 N-9 R3 PCGS graded MS63 Brown . Frosty medium brown and olive with lighter brown and tan faded down from mint color in protected areas, especially on the reverse. The fields are hard and slightly reflective but covered with fine hairlines that are clearly visible on the obverse. A diagonal nick-like pre-striking planchet flake is located just right of the eye (difficult to see) and there is a small spot of very fine carbon over the 2 in the date. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, with the always present die cracks connecting the stars and date but without the additional crack from star 13 to the dentils. The stars all have full radial lines and the portrait details are crisp. Called MS60 and CC#1 as the only mint state example in the Noyes census, his photo #20927. Bland says MS60 and tied for CC#1 with one other piece followed by a pair of AU examples. Obviously this is a variety that is difficult to locate in mint state. Our grade is AU58+, very close to mint state. 36862.63/13094632
