EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 FINEST 1827 N-10

LOT 152 1827 N-10 R4+ EF45 . Glossy medium brown and light olive with bluish steel overtones. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable marks are a spot of darker reddish brown toning at the top of the hair bun, one in the field at the nose, and another under the second A in AMERICA. Lightly cleaned and retoned with extremely faint hairlines covering both sides. Otherwise just trivial contact marks, none notable. EDS with slightly reflective fields on the obverse from the die polishing between the N-11 and N-10 marriages. Called AU55 net EF45 and CC#1 in the Noyes census, his photo #20531. Bland says AU50 and CC#1. This is the plate coin for the variety in the 1991 Noyes reference on the cents of 1816-1839 (therein graded by him as AU50). An important example of this tough die variety.
