Terry Denman Collection of Middle Dates Part 1
EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
THE NORWEB 1824 N-3
LOT 119 1824 N-3 R2 PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Choice lustrous light olive and steel. The reverse is a bit lighter than the obverse and subtle hints of underlying faded mint color can be found in a couple places on that side. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is outstanding. The only marks, and it takes a strong glass to find them, are a faint spot of extremely fine carbon on the jawline near the earlobe and another even smaller one between the date and star 1. LDS, die state b. The inner circle on the obverse is gone, the fields are flowlined, and very fine die rust shows on the face and neck. The portrait is very sharply struck, even the forelock. Graded MS60 (way too harsh) and tied for CC#3 in the Noyes census, his photo #27552. Our grade is MS63 . A wonderful 1824 cent, and it comes with the famous Norweb provenance. 36772.64/38193790 Ex Harry King, New Netherlands Coin Co. #48, 11/1956:410-The Norweb Family Collection, Bowers & Merena 11/14/1988:2889-Dr. Wallace Lee, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 5/25/2003:687-Elmer Guthrie (The Great Pacific Collection), Goldbergs 2/16/2020:224-Terry S.
