EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

 EQUAL FINEST N-8

LOT 83 1820 N-8 R3 Small Date, PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Choice lustrous light olive and tan with faded mint red covering the protected areas on both sides. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has great eye appeal. The only defects are a few light ticks in the field right of star 3, a speck of dark toning at the upper point of star 7, and a very light rim bruise over the O in OF. MDS, die state b, with microscopic radial die flowlines in the fields, and the inner circle at the dentils over stars 5-7 is dull but visible. Graded MS63 and tied for CC#1 with one other piece in the Noyes census, his photo #27478. Bland says MS63 and finest known of the confirmed examples in his census. Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63. A very attractive cent that comes with a great provenance. 36700.64/83244985 Ex J. C. MacAllister 3/28/1931-Henry C. Hines-Dr. William H. Sheldon-Numismatic Gallery (privately)-Floyd T. LOT 84 1820 N-9 R3 Large Date, PCGS graded MS64+ Brown . Lustrous light chocolate and lighter steel brown with peeps of mint red remaining on the obverse; 20% of the reverse still shows mint color. A subtle puff of slightly darker toning is blended into the toning between stars 3 & 4. The only imperfections are a small spot of darker toning over the N in ONE, another right of the T in CENT, and a third under the R in AMERICA. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, with smooth fields and sharp repunching under the foot of the T in CENT. Repunching also shows at the lower left of the 0 in the date. A sharp cent with satiny surfaces and great eye appeal. Called MS63 and tied for CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS60 and CC#2, his photo #21209. Both census lists contain only two mint state examples of the variety with the next best grading only AU50 or EF45 depending on the list used. Our grade is MS63. A very attractive cent that comes with an important provenance. 36661.64+/83260164
