LOT 43 1817 N-17 R4 VF35 . Glossy olive brown and chocolate. Smooth and sharp, void of spots or stains. The only significant marks are a small dig on the lower half of the 8 in the date and a light rim bruise at star 4. Sharply struck MDS, die state e early, with the right top of the first T in STATES clearly raised toward the rim above but without an additional die crack up to the dentils from the top of the E in STATES. The eye appeal of this cent is quite nice for the grade. Called VF30 and tied for CC#8 in the Noyes census, his photo #28788. Bland says VF35 and tied for CC#8 .  Ex U. S. LOT 44 1817 N-17 R4 VF20+ . Slightly sharper but there is a minor planchet lamination at the top of the U in UNITED (as struck). Otherwise the surfaces are smooth with only small contact marks consistent with the grade. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. MDS, die state e. Similar to the preceding lot but the cracks at the first T in STATES are stronger. Noyes graded VF25 net VF20, his photo #59562. Comes with a nice provenance.
