TNA HOF Collection Pt 1

EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 1294 1849 N-20 R1 EF45. Slightly sharper but there are some light contact marks on the obverse, none significant but a few more than you expect on a cent that has so little wear. A trio of dull ticks in the field before the mouth are the only marks that catch your eye. Frosty light brown with luster in protected areas. M-LDS, die state b late. The lines at UNITED and MERIC are gone but the rough die line down from the N in ONE is still clear.

LOT 1292 1849 N-19 R5- VF35. Slightly sharper but lightly cleaned, now glossy tan and light olive with medium brown in protected areas. Smooth with trivial marks including a speck of dark toning over the O in OF. M-LDS, die state b late, with crumbling in the leaves below the first S in STATES in addition to the earlier crumbling inside the top of the N in ONE.

LOT 1293 1849 N-20 R1 AU50. Choice glossy light olive and medium brown with lighter brown and tan in the obverse fields. Sharp and beautiful with light wear on the devices. A small nick in the center of the nose and a puff of slightly darker brown toning at the left top of the 4 are the only notable marks. EDS, die state a. The die lines at UNITED and MERIC are clear.

LOT 1295 1849 N-22/6 R1 VF35. Sharpness AU50 but there is fine roughness in the field behind the portrait plus small contact marks elsewhere on the obverse. Light to medium brown with some darker olive brown on the obverse. Most of the planchet is smooth with mint frost in protected areas. A thin vertical nick on the edge under the 9 is a good identifying mark. E-MDS, die state b early. The die lines at the curls are clear but the lines at MERIC are nearly gone. This is Newcomb’s #22.

CHOICE RED & BROWN N-22/6

LOT 1296 1849 N-22/6 R1 MS64. Choice lustrous mint red fading to steel brown with at least a third of the obverse and half of the reverse showing mint color. The surfaces are satiny and this cent has great eye appeal. A small spot of very fine carbon in the dentils at star 2 is the only notable mark. LDS, die state c. All the earlier die lines are gone except for the vertical line inside the top of the E in CENT. (This is Newcomb’s #6.)
