EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 1242 1848 N-30 R5+ F12. Sharpness F15 or slightly better but there are some contact marks, mostly on the portrait, including a fine diagonal scratch left of the ear. Glossy light brown with slightly darker steel brown on the highpoints. MDS, die state b. The earlier die lines at stars 10-12 are gone but there is no rim cud visible over stars 7-8.

N-30 WITH RIM CUD

LOT 1243 1848 N-30 R5+ VF25. Sharpness VF30 or a bit better but lightly cleaned, now toned glossy light olive and steel with lighter tan highpoints on the portrait. No roughness, just light contact marks on the obverse. MDS, die state b. Faint traces of the earlier die lines at stars 10-12 are visible and there is a strong rim cud at stars 7-8. CC#5 of 10 examples with the rim cud in the Grellman census, and on several of those the cud break is weak.
