RARE EARLY STATE N-31

LOT 1244 1848 N-31 R2+ AU50. Sharpness very close to mint state with great eye appeal, but there is a lightly abraded area left of the C in CENT where some specks of verdigris were removed. Glossy brown and chocolate with frosty lighter brown and tan in protected areas. Just a few small contact marks including a tick right of the inner curl and a larger one over the N in ONE. Very rare EDS, die state, before the tops of CE became joined by crumbling. The fields are hard and slightly reflective which adds to the eye appeal. Not in the overall condition census for the variety but tied for finest of just a few seen in this very early die state in the Grellman census.

LOT 1246 1848 N-32 R5 VF20+. Five points sharper with small contact marks on the obverse including a light scuff on the eyebrow and a nick over star 2. Glossy light to medium brown with light olive on the reverse. EDS with slightly reflective fields on the obverse. Several very fine die polishing lines show on the lower half of the obverse. A variety that is seldom found in high grade; the finest grading AU50. Tied for CC#7 honors in the Grellman census. 

LOT 1245 1848 N-31 R2+ EF40+. Sharpness EF45 with a few too many tiny contact marks for the sharpness grade. These include a faint hairline scratch close under star 5, a light vertical nick right of the nostril, and a small rim nick at the A in STATES. Glossy light to medium brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints and a faint puff of reddish chocolate toning on the jawline near the earlobe. Rare LDS, die state e, with a small internal cud break resting on top of the E in STATES and heavy swelling around the reverse legend. Removed from an NGC slab graded AU58BN (NGC label # 1941088-008 included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver Collection provenance).
