N-18 WITH CRACKED OBVERSE

LOT 1223 1848 N-18 R4+ EF40. Sharpness AU50 but there is a spot of very fine corrosion at NI in UNITED. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and choice with frosty light brown toning. Satiny mint luster covers the fields and protected areas. Rare M-LDS, die state c, with a clear die crack from the dentils over star 11 to the main curl. Tied for CC#4 of those known in die state d in the Grellman census.

LATE STATE N-18

LOT 1224 1848 N-18 R4+ VG10. Glossy medium brown and chocolate. No notable defects, just worn. LDS, die state d, with two die cracks on the obverse including a rather strong one from the dentils through star 1 to the bust and truncation to star 13. A decent example of this rare die state.
