LOT 1198 1848 N-4 R4 Repunched Date PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Frosty light to medium steel brown. Satiny and choice if not for a single dull nick under the hair bun. M-LDS, die state b late. The repunching inside the triangle of the 4 is gone but some is still visible inside the lower loops of the 8’s (same as the preceding lot). A very attractive cent. Our grade is MS60, but close to deserving a higher grade. Tied for CC#4 for the variety in the Grellman census. Comes with an impressive provenance. LATE STATE N-5

LOT 1199 1848 N-5 R4 Second 8 Repunched AU55. A sharp mint state cent that was lightly cleaned and nicely retoned glossy dark chocolate brown with slightly lighter chocolate toning on the portrait and at the bottom of the wreath. The only mark on otherwise flawless surfaces is a tiny, shallow nick in the field over star 2. MDS, die state d, with several fine die cracks through the legend outside the wreath, including one through RICA to the rim off the stem tip. The repunching well right of the base of the second 8 is sharp. Tied for CC#10 in the Grellman census. Another nice cent with an important provenance.

Ex Henry C. Hines-Willard C. Blaisdell 9/1976 (via Del Bland)-R. E. “Ted” Naftzger, Jr.-Naftzger Estate, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 9/7/2009:834-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Hines/Blaisdell and Naftzger collection envelopes)

LOT 1200 1848 N-5 R4 Second 8 Repunched EF45. Glossy medium brown with darker steel brown on the highpoints. Smooth and attractive with light wear on the devices. Minor contact marks and no roughness. A shallow low spot between stars 2 & 3 (as struck) and a thin vertical nick under the right edge of the hair bun are the best identifying defects. LDS, die state f, with a small but clearly defined rim cud off the end of the wreath stem.
