BEAUTIFUL “GREENIE”
LOT 1203 1848 N-7 R2 MS63+. Beautiful lustrous light sea green, a classic “greenie” that has superb eye appeal. The best identifying marks are a couple faint marks in the field right of star 3 and a faint spot of slightly darker toning over star 2. Sharply struck E-MDS, die state b early. The lump on the curl over the left side of the second 8 is present and the die lines at NITE are sharp. Tied for CC#3 honors in the Grellman census. A great cent with an equally great provenance. A real prize for the “Greenie Lovers” among us.
Ex Henry C. Hines-Dr. William H. Sheldon-Floyd T. Starr, Stack’s 6/13/1984:558-R. E. “Ted” Naftzger, Jr. (via William C. Noyes)-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection (includes the Naftzger collection envelope and Starr lot ticket)
