TNA HOF Collection Pt 1

EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 1151 1847 N-12 R3+ Repunched 8 AU50. Sharpness close to mint state but there are microscopic ticks on the rim over STA plus a few more on the lower part of the reverse. None of these marks is distracting, in fact they are easy to miss altogether, and this cent has excellent eye appeal. Frosty chocolate and steel brown with lighter brown toning in protected areas on the obverse. LDS, die state c, with a small but strong rim cud break right of star 9. The repunching inside the upper loop of the 8 is still sharp.

LOT 1154 1847 N-14 R3+ VF35. Slightly sharper with some small nicks on the cheek and neck. Glossy medium brown with frost in protected areas. A nice cent, and the small marks are not distracting. MDS, die state b, with a few die cracks on the reverse. The earlier die lines at the dentils left of star 1 are still visible.

LOT 1155 1847 N-15 R4+ Repunched 7 EF45. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with hints of reddish brown toning at the date. Sharply struck with mint frost in protected areas; free of any notable marks. EDS. The repunching at the right bottom of the 7 is sharp.

LOT 1152 1847 N-13 R4 VF30. Slightly sharper but there is an area of microscopic roughness on the neck and a few tiny ticks on the cheek. None of these flaws is visible to the unaided eye and this cent has very nice eye appeal. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate. M-LDS, die state c, with two strong die cracks up to the rim from the R in AMERICA, and the section of the rim between these two cracks is just starting to rise as a retained cud.

LOT 1156 1847 N-18 R5 Repunched Date AU58+. A lustrous mint state cent with great eye appeal, but there are a couple very light contact marks high on the neck and upper part of the hair bun. Otherwise this cent is choice and the toning is a very attractive light olive and medium brown. MDS, die state a. The fields on the obverse are lightly flowlined but there are no rim cuds. The curious “moonscape” texture on the portrait is clear (same as always seen on 1846 N-16 & N-17). Repunching is clearly visible on all 4 digits of the date, and the “Large 7 over Medium 7” feature is obvious. Tied for CC#8 in the Grellman census. A very attractive example of this tough die variety, and it comes with a nice provenance.

LOT 1153 1847 N-14 R3+ AU55. Choice lustrous light to medium brown. Looks mint state but there is a hint of rub on the highpoints. No spots, stains, or contact marks. LDS, die state d. There are fine die cracks on the reverse and the earlier die lines from the dentils left of star 1 are gone.
