TNA HOF Collection Pt 1

EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

RARE DIE STATE

LOT 1145 1847 N-7 R2+ VF20+. Five points sharper but there are small nicks scattered over the obverse and a light rim bump over star 6. None of the marks is significant but there are too many for the sharpness grade. Glossy medium brown. Very rare LDS, die state f, with rim cuds from star 11 to star 12, star 2 to star 3, and from star 1 to below the 184. All the cud breaks are clearly defined. CC#4 of only 7 known of the die state in the Grellman census, and a few of those do not show all the cud breaks.

Ex England-Tom Hart 2/2009-Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 1146 1847 N-8 R3 AU55. Choice glossy light olive and medium brown with traces of faded mint red on the reverse. Looks mint state but there is a touch of friction on the highest points of the devices. No spots or stains, just a few minor ticks on the neck and jaw. MDS, die state b, with fine die cracks on the reverse.

Ex Fred H. Borcherdt Collection

LOT 1147 1847 N-10 R3+ MS60. Frosty faded red mellowing to reddish steel brown. Possibly dipped long ago but the toning is attractive and the surfaces are lustrous. Sharply struck and nearly void of marks. There is a small spot of darker toning at the tip of the nose and a dusting of carbon specks on the lower portion of the neck. E-MDS, die state a. The fields are satiny from microscopic die flowlines but the die lines on the reverse are clear. Tied for CC#9 in the Grellman census. Comes with a very nice provenance.
