TNA HOF Collection Pt 1
EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
SECOND FINEST 1846 N-6
LOT 1103 1846 N-6 R1 Repunched 46 MS64+. Bright lustrous mint red fading to steel brown on the devices with at least 40% of the original mint color remaining. Sharp and nearly flawless with great eye appeal. A tiny speck of carbon near the dentils under star 3, a trace of a fingerprint over the hair bun, and a small splash of darker toning at the E in STATES are the notable defects. EDS but not quite the earliest. The fields are satiny from very fine die flowlines but the repunching at 46 is clear and there are no die lines down through the E in STATES. An impressive cent, second finest of the variety in the Grellman census.

CONDITION CENSUS 1846 N-7
LOT 1104 1846 N-7 R2+ Stray 4 in Dentils MS63. Lustrous light olive with 10% of the mint red remaining. Sharp, satiny, and choice. The only defects, and they are trivial mint-made flaws, are a tiny planchet chip at the left point of star 5 and a barely visible struck-through line under the earlobe (caused by a piece of lint on the die). EDS (but not quite the earliest) with microscopic die flowlines in the fields but no vertical die lines at ES-OF and no cracks. The top of the stray 4 in the dentils below the right side of the 8 is clear and the reverse is rotated 15 degrees clockwise. A very nice cent, tied for CC#3 in the Grellman census. Comes with a nice provenance.
