TNA HOF Collection Pt 1

LOT 1029 1842 N-3 R2 Large Date AU55. Frosty tan and light brown with slightly darker steel brown on the highpoints. Generous traces of mint red remain, especially on the reverse, and the fields are lustrous. Looks mint state but there is a trace of friction on the very highest points of the devices. There are some light contact marks, mostly on the obverse, including a diagonal nick on the neck and a few nicks on the jawline. Rare EDS+, die state a. There are microscopic radial die flowlines in the fields but the fine die line through the U in UNITED is clear.

LOT 1026 1842 N-1 R3 Small Date AU55. Lustrous light olive with delicate overtones of sea green. Satiny and attractive but there are some contact marks on the obverse including a nick right of the main curl, another at the bottom of the neck, and a vertical one on the chin. The reverse is free of any notable marks and is choice. E-MDS, die state b early. The lumps (hub defects) under the date are dull but clearly visible; the earlier die line at ITED is gone. A nice example of the “tougher” of the two 1842 Small Date varieties

LOT 1030 1842 N-4 R2+ Large Date MS60. Glossy medium brown delicately woodgrained with frosty lighter brown. There is a small, very thin nick in the field over the outer hair bun and a small spot of darker toning (not carbon) at the dentils under the wreath ribbon. M-LDS, die state c. The point from the neck is nearly gone, only the barest hint of a nub remaining. Tied for CC#7 in the Grellman census.

LOT 1027 1842 N-2 R1 Small Date, PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Lustrous light olive and bluish steel brown with faded mint color in protected areas on the obverse. Satiny mint frost covers this cent and the eye appeal is excellent. The only marks, and they are quite faint, are a few barely visible hairlines on the cheek and neck plus two tiny specks of darker toning right of star 4. MDS die state b. The hub defects under the date are weak but visible and the die lines from the dentils over ERI in AMERICA are gone. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Iskra Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 405815.62/81078202

LOT 1031 1842 N-5 R3+ Large Date AU50. Glossy medium brown with mint frost covering the protected areas on both sides. Hints of very faded mint color show in a few places. Sharp and attractive with just a touch of friction on the devices and minor contact marks. A small nick under the lower right point of star 2 can help identify this cent. E-MDS, die state a, with all the lines and points described by Grellman. The top of the misplaced 4 is clearly visible in the dentils below the left side of the normal 4.

LOT 1028 1842 N-2 R1 Small Date EF45+. Beautiful glossy medium chocolate brown and olive. A choice cent with great eye appeal and very little wear. Just a couple microscopic ticks on the cheek from flawless. LDS, die state d, with narrow rim cuds from the date to left of star 1.
