TNA HOF Collection Pt 1

EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 1022 1841 N-5 R3- EF45. Glossy golden tan and steel brown. Frosty flowline luster shows in the fields and protected areas, especially on the reverse. Just trivial marks including a light diagonal nick right of star 5 and a speck of carbon over the N in CENT. LDS, die state d, with die cracks on both sides. A tiny but clearly defined rim cud shows over TE in UNITED, a previously unreported cud break.

LOT 1024 1841 N-7 R2 AU55. Very close to mint state and it has mint state eye appeal, but the toning may not be original. Frosty light olive and tan with subtle hints of light bluish steel overtone. Sharp and satiny with very nice eye appeal and virtually no marks. A shallow low spot left of the O in ONE and a small chip out of the rim below the end of the wreath ribbon are the notable marks, both as struck. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state a. The early die lines on both sides are clear as are the lumps (hub defects) under the date.

LOT 1023 1841 N-6 R1 MS60. Glossy light olive and steel brown with about 10% of the mint red remaining, mostly on the reverse. There are small contact marks scattered over the obverse, none distracting but too many to ignore on a mint state cent. A thin vertical nick under the left point of star 10 can help identify this cent. E-MDS, die state b early. The fields are lightly flowlined, and the die lines from the dentils over TE in STATES and ER in AMERICA are weak but still visible.

 MOSTLY RED 1841 N-7

LOT 1025 1841 N-7 R2 PCGS graded MS63 Red & Brown, CAC Approved. Frosty mint red faded to steel brown on the highpoints with at least two thirds of the red showing, mostly on the reverse. No spots or stains, but this cent is covered with tiny contact marks, none distracting but far too many to ignore. Essentially this is a “baggy” mint state cent that looks like a mostly red gem to the unaided eye. The best identifying mark is a tiny spot of dark steel toning touching the wreath under the left edge of the E in CENT, and it is barely visible. Rare LDS, die state c late, with a clear die crack from the dentils below star 1 reaching almost to the throat. Called MS63 and tied for CC#2 in the Noyes census, his photo #30925. Our grade is AU58, not in the overall condition census but tied for CC#2 of very few known in the late die state (c). The attribution and Naftzger Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. 405810.63/18900029
