Ralph Rucker Collection Fixed Price Pt II

S-188

CONDITION CENSUS 1799/8

LOT 255 1799/8 S-188 R4 Overdate 9 over 8 NGC XF40. Glossy medium brown and light chocolate with a few wisps of darker chocolate including a few near the dentils before the portrait and a small one off the peak of the 1 in the denominator. The surfaces are smooth but there are a few contact marks including a small mar on the rim right of the Y in LIBERTY, a dull nick left of the eye, a few small nicks in the field off the end of the nose, and a nick on the neck. MDS with the usual die clashmarks but no cracks. The date and legends are complete and clear and the overdate feature is obvious. Our grade is VF25. Fourth finest of the variety available to collectors (a net VF30 piece is in the ANS Collection). A very nice example of this tough overdate variety and it comes with an impressive provenance. $85,000 Ex Dr. William H.
