EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS
LOT 219 1798 S-179 R2 Small 8, Style II Hair ANACS graded VF20 . Glossy medium brown blending to chocolate in protected areas. Smooth and attractive. The only marks are a small rim dent left of the lower curls and a planchet flake at the leaf at the right top of the wreath. EDS. The E over Inverted E in AMERICA is clear. Our grade is F15 . The attribution is noted on the ANACS label. Certificate #7341087
LOT 221 “1799” Cent with Date Altered from 1798 S-147 Style I Hair R5- G4 . Rather glossy medium brown with chocolate in protected areas. The Large 8 was very skillfully reengraved into a 9 and there is no obvious evidence of the engraving, but the Style I Hair is a dead giveaway. A great hole filler.
From the Charles B. Wallace Collection
LOT 222 1800/79 S-196 R1 Overdate 80 over 79, Style II Hair VG8 . Sharpness F15 but covered with moderate granularity under slightly glossy dark steel and olive brown toning. No verdigris, and the only marks are a couple old vertical scratches in the field off the ends of the hair ribbon. MDS without any die crack on the obverse. The date and legends are strong and the overdate feature is obvious.
LOT 220 1798 S-187 R1 Small 8, Style II Hair VG8+ . Sharpness F12 or slightly better with a shallow pit on the neck and fine roughness elsewhere on both sides. No marks but there are a few patches of very shallow reddish verdigris on both sides. Slightly glossy dark steel and olive brown. E-MDS, Breen state II, with two die cracks on the obverse and one on the reverse. The date and legends are strong. Struck with the reverse rotated 20 degrees CCW.

RARE S-198
LOT 223 1800 S-198 R5+ AG3+ . Sharpness VG7 but covered with fine to moderate roughness under slightly glossy dark olive toning. There is a rim bruise at the D in UNITED and an old but relatively deep scratch at IC into the leaves. MDS, Breen state III, with a die crack at ICA to the fraction. The earlier crack from the 1 to the ribbon above is clear. The date and legends are complete and easily readable. A rare variety that has never been seen in high grade; the finest grades net VG10 by EAC grading standards.
