EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

1793 S-16 RARITY

LOT 164 1793 S-16 R6 Liberty Cap Fair-2 . Sharper but lightly corroded with patches of stronger reddish corrosion on the obverse. The portrait, LIBERTY, and some of the devices on the reverse are significantly sharper. If you get the light just right you can see portions of the date, particularly the 79, but to say the date is readable would be a mischaracterization. Dull dark olive brown and steel. An old, dull scratch in the field before the face and another under the chin are the notable contact marks. Struck with the reverse rotated 45 degrees CCW relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. Not a pretty cent but quite rare.

Ex Jim Young who traded it to Tom Schuler for a nicer 1793 S-14 in 2019

LOT 165 1794 S-20b R5 Head of 1793, Edge of 1794 ANACS graded VG8 Details, Corroded . Dark olive brown and steel. The obverse is rather glossy while the reverse is closer to matte. Fine granularity covers the planchet, strongest in protected areas. The only notable marks are a chip on the shoulder above 79, a nick hidden in the hair, and a rim bruise below the 94. EDS, Breen state I. The date is strong and the legends are complete, although the legends on the reverse are relatively weak as usual because those elements were struck in relatively low relief. Our grade is net VG7. The attribution is noted on the ANACS label. Certificate #7341071
