EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 157 1853 C-1 R1 AU58 . A mint state piece that was dipped and has retoned lustrous mellowed red with steel brown toning on the highpoints. No stains or spots, and the only mark is a tiny rim nick right of star 8. Satiny and attractive with choice Red & Brown mint state eye appeal. MDS with light flowlines in the fields. CERTIFIED RED 1855

LOT 158 1855 C-1 R1 PCGS graded MS65 Red . Lustrous mint red fading to light steel brown with about 85% of the red remaining, mostly on the obverse. This half cent has great eye appeal. There are some microscopic specks of darker toning (not carbon) on the reverse, mostly at the N in UNITED; otherwise this piece is a gem. MDS with lightly flowlined fields and some weakened dentils on both sides. Our grade is MS64+. The Larry Shapiro provenance is noted on the PCGS label. Certificate #1235.65/10924015

Ex Larry Shapiro Collection-the Arlington Collection

LOT 159 1855 C-1 R1 NGC graded MS66 Red & Brown . Lustrous mint red mellowing to light bluish brown and steel with nearly a third of the mint color remaining. A choice piece that has great eye appeal. The only marks a tiny scuff in the field close over the tip of the coronet and a thin nick or planchet void on the rim under star 13. MDS with very fine die flowlines in the fields. Our grade is MS64. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Certificate #1205986-005

Ex McCawley &Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 1/29/2012:114

LOT 160 1855 C-1 R1 AU58 . Frosty light to medium brown blending to olive in protected areas. Looks mint state but there is a trace of rub on the highest points of the devices. MDS with lightly flowlined fields. The portrait is very well struck.
