LOT 559 1787 Massachusetts Cent Ryder 2b-E R5 G5 . Slightly sharper but covered with fine roughness. No verdigris and the only mark is a small planchet fissure at K-11 on the obverse and the opposing K-7 on the reverse. Chocolate and dark steel brown. The date is clear as are most of the letters in the legend. Weight 142.3 grains.

RARE 1788 MASSACHUSETTS CENT

LOT 560 1788 Massachusetts Cent Ryder 12-K R6- Period after Massachusetts F15 . Sharper by at least 5 points but there is a planchet void at CO in COMMON (as struck). Otherwise this cent is choice for the grade with smooth surfaces and attractive glossy medium chocolate brown toning. Frost covers the protected areas. The date is bold. A premium example of this rare die combination. Listed on page 59 in the 2023 “Redbook.” Weight 149.1 grains.

LOT 561 1788 Massachusetts Cent Ryder 12-K R6- Period after Massachusetts Fair-2 Holed . Glossy light chocolate brown. The highpoints are smooth but fine roughness covers everything else. Basically a well worn cent with a small, neatly drilled hole through the mound under the Indian’s feet. The date is quite weak and most of the legends are weak or missing. Listed on page 59 in the 2023 “Redbook.” Weight 131.0 grains.

LOT 562 1788 Massachusetts Cent Ryder 12-M R4- Period after Massachusetts PCGS graded VF35 . Frosty light olive with darker olive brown in protected areas. The only marks are a scuff of fine scratches at the Indian’s head, and these are not visible to the unaided eye. Sharply struck with a bold date and legends. Our grade is VF35, same as the PCGS grade. Listed on page 59 in the 2023 “Redbook.” Certificate #948.35/44800248
