EARLY CENTS AUCTIONS

LOT 529 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.7-r.2 R2 Draped Bust Left F12 . Glossy olive brown with light brown on the devices. Smooth and attractive. The only defect is a pre-striking planchet void left of the date. The date and legends are complete and strong. Weight 144.8 grains.

LOT 532 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.17-r.1 R1 Draped Bust Left VF35 . Choice glossy medium brown and light chocolate. Smooth and very attractive. No corrosion, verdigris, or contact marks, just light wear on the devices. The only defects are a few small planchet chips including one at the edge over the head of the seated figure. Struck slightly off center to K-1 leaving the bottom of the date off the planchet. Everything else is clear. Comes with a nice provenance. Weight 148.2 grains.

Ex Fred Hazen, 2003 C-4 Sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 11/8/2003:286 (lot ticket included)

Ex George C. Perkins, Stack’s 3/18/1993:2176-Steven L. Tanenbaum (includes the Tanenbaum envelope)

LOT 530 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.13-Z.7 R5 Draped Bust Left VF25 . Glossy olive brown and steel with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. Smooth with nice eye appeal. The only notable defect is a very shallow planchet flake at the B in LIB right of the globe. A variety that is difficult to grade because the dies were worn out, particularly the reverse. The die cracks and small cud break on the obverse are clear. Struck slightly off center to K-9 but the date and legends are complete and clear. Weight 148.0 grains.

LOT 533 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.19-Z.1 R4 Draped Bust Left VF30 . Glossy light olive and chocolate with flowline luster in protected areas. Essentially flawless with just light friction on the highpoints and a few microscopic planchet chips in the center of the obverse. Late die state with extensive die wear on the obverse. A premium Connecticut copper that comes with a very nice provenance. Weight 154.2 grains.

Ex John J. Ford, Jr., Stack’s 5/10/2005:390 (lot ticket and round circle “H” collector ticket included, apparently from the collection of Dr. Thomas Hall)

LOT 531 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.13-Z.7 R5 Draped Bust Left F15 . Glossy olive brown and chocolate. Covered with microscopic granularity but there is no verdigris. The only marks are a few trivial planchet chips, mostly near the rims. The date is complete and clear. The reverse is misaligned to K-10.5 but the devices and legends are visible. Later die state with cracks and a small cud break on the obverse. Weight 129.7 grains.

LOT 534 1787 Connecticut Miller 33.23-Z.4 R5 Draped Bust Left F15 . Considerably sharper but there is a deep delamination from the bust tip to the adjacent A (the delamination is included and it has the “A” on it). Otherwise this piece is nice with attractive glossy light brown toning on the devices blending to chocolate in protected areas. The date is bold and the legends are strong where not affected by the planchet flaw. Weight 136.8 grains (with the delamination included).

Ex Peter Scherff-Collector’s Cabinet 12/1988-Chester L. Krause, Stack’s 3/2/2010:2400 (as VF20, lot ticket included)

Ex Jesse Patrick, 2002 C-4 Sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 11/16/2002:161 (lot ticket included)
