LUSTROUS MOSTLY RED 1828 C-3
LOT 329 1826 C-1 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Brown . Very lustrous tan and light brown with traces of light sea-green toning in some protected areas. Sharply struck and very attractive. A splash of medium brown and light chocolate toning at OF is the best identifying mark. M-LDS, Manley state 4.0. The die crack from the bust through star 1 and the other crack connecting stars 1-3 are clear as are the die lines right of the date, but the lines from the top of the head over LI are nearly gone. Struck with the reverse rotated 20 degrees CCW. Our grade is MS60+. Certification Number 1144.64/9488258
Ex Thomas D. Reynolds
LOT 330 1826 C-2 R3+ Repunched 6 F15 . Ten points sharper but there are small nicks scattered over both sides plus a few hairline scratches in the field off the chin and above the 6. None of the marks is visible without a glass. Rather glossy steel brown and chocolate. E-MDS. The repunching on the 6 is sharp.
LOT 333 1828 C-3 R1 13-Star Obverse, PCGS graded MS63 Red & Brown . Lustrous bright mint red fading to steel brown on the highpoints with 75% of the obverse and 85% of the reverse showing mint color. Just trivial specks and contact marks including a tiny contact mark left of star 9 and a small spot of darker toning (not carbon) hidden in the hair over RT. MDS, Manley state 2.0, Fuhrman state 3.0, with die clashmarks on both sides. Our grade is MS63+. Most likely from the hoard of mint state examples discovered in the 1890’s. Certification Number 1148.63/13855300
LOT 331 1828 C-1 R1 13-Star Obverse EF40 . Five points sharper but there are some small contact marks on the cheek and neck. Frosty mottled mix of tan, chocolate, and dark olive brown. A barely visible planchet clip affects the rim over NIT, as struck. Sharply struck with crisp details but the uneven toning is a distraction.

LOT 334 1828 C-3 R1 13-Star Obverse, PCGS graded MS62 Red & Brown . Lustrous medium steel brown with slightly mellowed mint red covering about 20% of both sides. The luster is a bit subdued by a very thin layer of oxidation and a glass reveals microscopic specks of darker brown toning in the fields on the obverse. M-LDS. Our grade is MS62. (The holder is scuffed on both sides.). Certification Number 1148.62/08410282
LOT 332 1828 C-2 R1 12-Star Obverse, PCGS graded AU58 . Choice frosty light chocolate with lighter brown and tan in protected areas. Satiny and virtually flawless with just a hint of friction on the highpoints. E-MDS, Manley state 2.0, with light die clashmarks on the reverse. Most of the devices on the reverse show sharp doubling (from die bounce or “machine doubling,” not a doubled die). Our grade is AU55. Certification Number 1150.58/19958345
