A THIRD GORGEOUS 1793 HALF CENT

LOT 280 1793 C-4 R3 Liberty Cap PCGS graded VF35 . Glossy tan and light brown with darker steel brown toning on the highpoints. Another smooth, lightly worn 1793 half cent. Just a few small marks including a thin diagonal nick or planchet void high on the cheekbone and a faint hairline from the earlobe to the throat. A small puff of reddish steel toning at the top of the 9 can help identify this piece. Scarce EDS, Manley state 1.0, Fuhrman 1, without the die defect at the top of the 7. Our grade is VF30. This is the plate coin for the die state in the 2022 Fuhrman reference The Half Cent Handbook, Liberty Cap Varieties 1793-1797. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Certification Number 35012.35/50463616

LOT 283 1794 C-9 R2 AG3 . The obverse is sharper, the reverse weaker, a 6/2 split. The date is complete and easily readable but not strong; less than half the legends on the reverse remain visible. Glossy olive brown and steel, possibly retoned. There is a scuff of very fine hairlines across the date and a few small planchet voids at the top of the reverse. LDS. LOT 284 Quartet of Half Cents, 1794-1808 . Includes 1794 C-9 R2 VF30 net G5 for moderate corrosion (no verdigris but probably dug), 1800 C-1 R2 F12 net G5 for corrosion, 1803 C-3 R2 VG8 net Fair-2 for corrosion, and 1808/7 C-2 R3 Overdate 8 over 7 F15 net AG3 for corrosion). All have a weak but readable date. Lot of 4 coins.

LOT 281 1794 C-2a R2+ NGC VF Details, Burnished . Attractive glossy chocolate brown with lighter brown highpoints. We see no evidence of “Burnishing” but the surfaces do look like they were brushed a bit too aggressively and the color may not be original. Nonetheless the surfaces are smooth and this piece has really nice eye appeal. EDS, Manley state 1.0, with no die clashmarks--a die state called “Rare” by Manley. Our grade is VF20 sharpness net F15. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Certification Number 6685630-001

LOT 282 1794 C-5a R4+ NGC Fine Details, Obverse Tooled . Glossy steel brown on the highpoints with lighter brown in the fields and protected areas. The obverse was very lightly burnished and nicely retoned. The surfaces are smooth and the eye appeal of this half cent is quite nice. However there is a dull scratch from the earlobe down to the bust plus a few faint hairline scratches in the field before the portrait. Only the dull one catches your eye. EDS, Manley state 1.0, before any die clashmarks. Our grade is F12 sharpness net VG8. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Certification Number 6703127-007

LOT 285 1795 C-1 R2 Lettered Edge G6 . Glossy steel brown and light chocolate. Smooth with nice eye appeal and minor marks. A small rim bruise at AT in STATES and another at the M in AMERICA are the only notable marks. The date is strong and the only weakness is at HAL due to minor swelling in that area. EDS.
